Li–Fi or Light Fidelity – yes you heard right. Now it’s time to make a change in the technology of Wi-Fi. 100 times faster than it.
Li-Fi is a bidirectional, high speed and fully networked wireless communication technology similar to Wi-Fi. Li-Fi is named by Prof. Harald Haas.
Scientists have just tested new Li-Fi technology for the first time and achieved fantastic wireless speed. And the speed, which you can’t imagine right now.100 times faster than running Wi-Fi.
So, what actually this Li-Fi is?
A new wireless technology known as Li-Fi uses visible light communication or infra-red and near ultraviolet (instead of radio frequency waves) spectrum.
According to scientists, Li-Fi speed is 224 gigabits per second (GBps) in the lab. And this new wireless technology will change this era and will bring a new era of internet.
Velmenni took the new wireless technology out from the laboratory to the real-world offices, and industrial environments in Tallinn for the first time and, the result are marvelous. The company was able to transmit data at 1GB per second, which is almost 100 times faster than the Wi-Fi speeds.
“We are doing a few pilot projects in different industries where we can utilize the VLC technology,” Velmenni’s CEO Deepak Solanki told IBTimes UK.
“Currently we have designed a smart lighting solution for an industrial environment where the data communication is done through the light. We’re also doing a pilot project with a private client where we’re setting up a Li-Fi network to access the Internet in [our] office space.”

Advantage: Li-Fi can be used in electromagnetic sensitive areas such as in aircraft cabins, hospitals and nuclear power plants without causingelectromagnetic interference. Li-Fi is expected to be ten times cheaper than Wi-Fi. Short range, low reliability and high installation costs are the potential downsides.
The new and fabulous wireless technology, Li-Fi was started in 2011 by Harald Hass, who layout the idea of using bulbs as wireless routers during a TED Talk. He demonstrate that with a flickering light from an LED, one could transmit more data than a cellular tower.
