Microsoft says new processors will only work with win10 and older versions like win7 and 8.1 won’t be updated for future processors.
Whole process starts with the Intel 6th generation Core processors, also known as Intel Skylake.
After July 2017 – only the most critical security updates will be released, according to a new announcement from Redmond.
Skaylake combined with windows 10, enables better graphics up to 30x and 3x battery life. But the news is not end here the new generation processors will only support windows 10.
And the new processors from Intel family, AMD and Qualcomm will support the latest windows. Microsoft clearly stated that:
Windows 10 will be the ONLY supported Windows on upcoming silicons like Intel’s “Kaby Lake”, Qualcomm’s “8996”, and AMD’s “Bristol Ridge”
This doesn’t mean that win7 and 8.1 are no longer supported in general. The two good OS will continue to get updates through Jan 14th 2020 and Jan 10th2023 respectively. But that’s only if you are using hardware that was compatible with those OS.
Microsoft offers 18-month grace period for Enterprise Customers.
Microsoft is offering 18 month of grace period to Enterprise customers. If they are going to by new computer systems in bulk, they’ll have to either buy systems form Microsoft’s recommended list that will come with older processors, or they will need to windows 10.
Microsoft’s biggest partners Dell, Lenovo and HP welcomed the new policy.
Microsoft has given a proper answer to justify the change in hardware. Redmond lists the issues like “interruption in processing, bus support, and power states which is challenging for Wi-Fi, graphics, security, and more.”
But the enterprises have to kneel down and will have to pay whatever will be the amount of improvements battery life and security.
